Die Auf - nahme war unvoll ständig und unscharf, aber es war das erste Bild von der Mars - oberfläche: ein Horizont und dahinter der Schatten eines dunklen Himmels.

After transmitting from Mars’ surface for just fifteen seconds, the Mars 3 went silent. The Soviet mission control had no doubt that a violent dust storm was to blame. They only had seventy-nine lines of an image. It was incomplete and blurry, but it was the first image of the surface of Mars: a horizon, behind it the shadow of a dark sky.
